Air Duct Cleaning

Why clean your air ducts?

Cleaning ductwork can improve indoor air quality and help your HVAC system operate more efficiently.
Pollution levels are often higher indoors than outside. The EPA estimates that the indoor levels of many pollutants are 2—5 times higher, and on occasion, 100 times higher than outdoor levels.  When your air ducts are dirty you may notice one or more of the following symptoms while indoors:

  • Excessive dust (more than expected)
  • Stale odors from air vents
  • Aggravated allergies or asthma

There are many types of pollutants that may be found in ductwork.  For example
:

Dirt, Dust, & Pollen    Mold, Mildew, & Fungi    Insect Remains
    Pet Hair/Dander         Rodents & Droppings     Drywall Dust/Particles

How often do my air ducts need to be cleaned?
This is a frequently asked question. The best answer is that the need varies from one household or business to another, depending on lifestyle/activity, allergies, pets, ductwork design and installation, remodeling, and many other factors.  A good ballpark estimate would be every 4-8 years for residential and every 2-5 years for high traffic commercial & institutional organizations. However, your need may be more or less frequent.

So, how can I tell if it's time for a cleaning?
Here's a quick and easy indicator.  Remove the vent cover from the cold air return (where the air goes back in, as opposed to blowing out).  If this is where your filter is located, remove it also.  Now simply look inside with a flashlight.  If it's gunked-up (that's technical terminology) or looks like it needs a good cleaning, you need to schedule an appointment.  If it doesn't look too bad, save your money and check again later.

Wright Duct Cleaning uses high efficiency, hepa-filtered negative air equipment to provide powerful vacuum suction, and a variety of compressed air tools and brush equipment to thoroughly vacuum your ductwork. Your blower compartment and, if needed, your coil fins will also be cleaned.  If mold or mildew is found inside your ductwork, an EPA approved microbiocide can be applied after cleaning to help prevent the growth of mold & mildew, bacteria, and fungi.  This treatment is approved as safe for people, pets, and plants.
